Out the front door with God on his side
faith in his one way ticket to ride
thunder and lightning though the heavens may fall
he's got no worries...no no none at all
Wife still at home with her hands in the sink
wedding ring tightens as though it can shrink
she looks out the window with her eyes somewhere else
trying not to look at herself
How many years how much faith in the dark
how many headaches that replaced the spark
pictures filled with strangers and those
whose silence replaces the flowery prose
where you going tonight?
what time'll you be home?
it's a big ol empty house
to wander alone
where you going tonight?
should I leave the light on?
or will you follow that star
that leads to the dawn?
A blushing young bride in her Mom's wedding gown
now running errands back and forth into town
son's soccer games...and a daughter in dance
don't forget the career when you get a chance
And the dashing groom....as holy as hell
thumping the bible and dying to tell
anyone who'll listen that the bed has grown cold
he ain't getting no younger is the truth to behold
So what happens next is as common as sin
you unlock the door and let someone else in
looking for God knows what from God knows where
while you cover the gray popping up in your hair
where you going tonight?
what time'll you be home?
it's a big ol empty house
to wander alone
where you going tonight?
should I leave the light on?
or will you follow that star
that leads to the dawn?
Look in the mirror...hell you ain't so bad
the best piece of ass that he'll ever have
so much to say...maybe tomorrow for that
after a bit of tit for tat
where you going tonight?
what time'll you be home?
it's a big ol empty house
to wander alone
where you going tonight?
should I leave the light on?
or will you follow that star
that leads to the dawn?
