I love to watch the sun go down
Behind the hill above this town
The shadow climbs the millhouse wall
I can hear the night bird's call
I love to watch the lights come on
In the quiet streets when the sun is gone
First hint of springtime in the air
Young lovers walking in the square
I love to watch our children sleep
Ours to have but not to keep
They're the best things that we've done
They were not born to carry guns
I love to watch the river flow
When the water's high from melting snow
Wish I could throw my troubles in
Watch them float away again
I love to walk the streets alone
Past these stately river homes
Head on down to the railroad tracks
I could hop a freight and never look back
I love to watch the sun go down
Behind the hill just west of town
The shadow climbs these prison walls
I long to hear the night bird's call
