Annie's medicated so she sleeps right through the day
prayed that her boy wouldn't die but he went and died anyway
Seems God, he wouldn't listen, or he had other things to do
so now when she puts her foot down, it falls right through

Annie went for a soldier but he lost his head
went off to Viet Nam but he came home dead
but he left his seed inside her and his boy became a man
to become just another warm body in someone else's plan

Annie's God....God help him
he's made a mess of things
and fire has melted down
another wedding ring

Annie was the first born....had a brother who tried real hard
to keep their father off her when he'd come home scarred
so she cast her lot with Jesus she wore her knees to the bone
and now it's crystal meth and waking up all alone

Annie's God....God help him
he's made a mess of things
seems to know next to nothing
of what the morrow brings

Anna bought a headstone with the year she was born
engraved in the marble that's now tired and worn
daughter in law and grandson sometimes they'll stop by
to throw a log on the fire or watch to her as she flies

overflow collection plate
and a set of strap-on wings
