Thursday, July 21, 2005 - Congressman Don Sherwood admitted Thursday he had an affair but he denied allegations he abused the Washington area woman with whom he was involved.Sherwood offered an apology to his family, friends and constituents in the 10th district. He wrote in a statement, "For about five years, I had an affair I deeply regret." Newswatch 16 let the people in the 10th congressional district, Sherwood's district, read the statement for themselves and many constituents  had a variety of opinions."Could I say, well, he should be thrown out considering all the things the politicians are doing? I couldn't throw him out of office for what he did," said Robert Hanlon from Kingston."I don't agree with what he did in the first place, but if he's admitting to it, he's willing to accept the responsibilities," said Lois Manley from Harveys Lake. The story came out back in May. Sherwood is facing a lawsuit filed by the woman who is from Maryland. She claims during the affair, the married congressman beat her on several occasions.   Sherwood denied allegations he abused the woman.

We welcome your comments.

Born in the shadow of the viaduct
The local fair-haired boy
Always had a knack for makin' a buck
His family's pride and joy
We always knew that he'd go far
He was our hometown superstar
When his classmates voted on who would do good
They knew Donny sure would

They say hard work is its own reward
You can believe it or not
But no one can deny that he's worked real hard
Earned everything he's got
A solid reputation as an honest man
From selling used cars on the installment plan
But when someone had to speak up for the neighborhood
We knew that Donny sure would

Refrain:
You know it gets lonely at the top
You can't blame a man who needs a little romance in a lifetime spent bucking
the odds
So let's go on down
To Donny's House of Massage
To Donny's House of Massage

Donny moved in to a big glass house
Just before election night
Then he rode rode all around town on his high horse
Throwing stones at every sinner in sight
He said, "I will lead you to the promised land
I am the very model of a moral man
If you want to vote for someone who could do you some good
Remember Donny sure would"

We all recall when Henry Kissinger
Told Chairman Mao the facts
How the greatest thing about having power
Is it's an aphrodisiac
It seems Donny learned that lesson well
Though he never thought she'd kiss and tell
If any man could claim to be misunderstood
I reckon Donny sure would

Refrain

Politicians lead a stressful life
Inside the Belt-way so far from home
So a man might be forgiven for forgetting his wife
Sitting home all alone
But it really shouldn't come as any surprise
That there are no secrets in the public eye
Though you might not believe the game is played for blood
I'll bet Donny sure would

Born in there shadow of the viaduct
Where his monument stands today
Always had knack for making a buck
Yes he'd find a way to make it pay
We always knew that he would go far
He was our hometown superstar
When his classmates voted on who would do good
They knew Donny sure would

Refrain
