Bob Hope shook my hand and said "come home soon"
I smiled and told him I would
well, I never really made all the way home
but I know he understood
darkness came and the fear it spread
but I could still smile from something Bob Hope had said

Bob Hope asked me about my kids
and he told me about his wife
said he loved her dearly but was away a lot
but it was the way he choose to live his life

Ann Margaret was a beauty
with legs made of gold
she'd smile and I smiled back
I was 19 years old

Bob Hope saluted before he got on the plane
I know I saw a tear
further down the road there were more boys like me
who needed laughter over here
