The Crazy Agnostic

I'm the crazy agnostic I'm here to give you hell
I sleep right through them Sunday church bells
I don't do blind faith very well
and I don't worry 'bout tomorrow
I help old ladies across the street
when I'm on the bus I give up my seat
to those with clearly aching feet
I expect no quid pro quo

I'm the crazy agnostic with feet on the ground
men wearing robes always brought me down
especially when they're the same ones I see downtown
trolling for little boys
I make no distinctions I make no fuss
in front of a lady I try not to cuss
dogma is laying in front of the bus
with picture perfect poise

If Allah is so Akbar and Jesus is so great
why can't their followers seem to relate
to anything other than bullets and hell
they sure do that blessed carnage well

I'm the crazy agnostic if you do unto me
something to which I do not agree
to seek retribution I am quite free
with no man in the sky to mollify
but I was raised on the golden rule
and 18 years of catholic school
to some I'm just a damned old doddering fool
whose faith has gone awry

but I've plenty of faith I still believe in love
and that there's nothing that I'm unworthy of
because of burgers on Friday or a scarf falling down
or the railroad tracks that cut through this town

I'm the crazy agnostic I just shake my head
at all the wounded and all of the dead
who march wherever they are led
in the name of their own blessed Lord
when the button is pressed to end it all
you'll find me in the bathroom stall
writing on the walls in my chicken scrawl
may reason be restored

but I've plenty of faith I believe in love
and that there's nothing that I'm unworthy of
because of burgers on Friday or a scarf falling down
or the railroad tracks that cut through this town

I'm the crazy agnostic I'm here to give you hell
I sleep right through them Sunday church bells
I don't do blind faith very well
and I don't worry 'bout tomorrow
