It's Getting Late for Crying

Daylight saving's time
and the summer's end
all the missing sunlight
and all the missing friends
some look to heaven
for a peace to come
something tells me
you're the only one

Take to the road
and the railroad tracks
walk out of town
and there's no looking back
Sally....let me lay
and rest my head
and when the morning comes
I'll make our bed

but still...
it's getting late for crying
and soon these shoes will take to flying
away from here

Gypsies and fortune tellers
just sit and stare
when you smile so pretty
and let down your hair
they ain't seen nothing
like you before
make 'em question everything
that comes through the door

but still...
it's getting late for crying
and soon these shoes will take to flying
away from here

the war it rages
outside our door
nobody quite sure
just what they're looking for

Crowds always drift away
everybody's got a home
even those who question
and claim the urge to roam
we're getting no younger
but I feel the same
just a little bit softer
and a little more tame

but still...
it's getting late for crying
and soon these shoes will take to flying
away from here
