From the online song cycle HANDS IN THE DARK
Writing a song from the perspective of a pedophile priest is not something I've done before. It's not exactly enjoyable....but it's extremely necessary for the Hands in the Dark project. The song came out exactly the way I wanted it to. Raw, ambiguous, and somewhat creepy.
We welcome your comments.
Wake up my child
the blind will see
but you know it's only
you and me
wake up my child
the lame can walk
the deaf can hear
but only the dumb will talk
wake up my child
I'll take you home
your mother's waiting
and she's all alone
Wake up my child
while the sun is still down
I'll give you absolution
before we head back to town
I hate to leave here
but we must be moving on
the congregation stirs
at the crack of Sunday's dawn
so remember
what we talked about
and how the hands of the Lord
never have a doubt
Wake up my child
wipe the sleep away
I didn't mean to make you cry
I'll make it up to you someday
no one needs to know
all the things that we share
just know it's just the 3 of us
God is always there
so remember
what we talked about
and know the hand of the Lord
never has a doubt
